At first glance, Destruction is a very expensive Runeword, what with four of the five runes required being extremely rare Runes. Any Runeword with such a huge price must justify its cost to Diablo 2 players...but does Destruction do this? Let's take a look at Destruction:
This Runeword only works for Ladder characters.
Requirements:
A Polearm or Sword with 5 sockets
Runes (in order): Vex + Lo + Ber + Jah + Ko
The Stats:
Level Required: 65
23% Chance To Cast Level 12 Volcano On Striking
5% Chance To Cast Level 23 Molten Boulder On Striking
100% Chance To Cast level 45 Meteor When You Die
15% Chance To Cast Level 22 Nova On Attack
+350% Enhanced Damage
Ignore Target's Defense
Adds 100-180 Magic Damage
7% Mana Stolen Per Hit
20% Chance Of Crushing Blow
20% Deadly Strike
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Dexterity
23% Chance To Cast Level 12 Volcano On Striking
5% Chance To Cast Level 23 Molten Boulder On Striking
100% Chance To Cast level 45 Meteor When You Die
15% Chance To Cast Level 22 Nova On Attack
All very visually exciting and damaging spells when they trigger for your melee character, but worth four extremely rare Runes? Especially when one of them involves a conditional that no player wants happening to his/her high-level character.
+350% Enhanced Damage
This is pretty huge boost to weapon damage, and the nice thing about it is that it is fixed at 350% compared to other Runewords (Death). But, given its cost, the boost to weapon damage is a little on the low side of most players' expectations.
Ignore Target's Defense
Nice mod for normal Monsters, especially in Hell Difficulty, but doesn't work on Champions, Uniques, Bosses or Players.
Adds 100-180 Magic Damage
Occasionally, while playing Diablo 2, especially in Hell Difficulty, you will come across monsters commonly referred as Physical Immunes, meaning they are immune to physical damage. Therefore, you must find other ways to deal damage, and magic and elemental damage are the two options.
Magic Damage is really nice, because aside from one monster in the whole game, none of them are immune to magic, and even for players, only one single Crafted Safety Shield offers any resistance to magic at all.
There are other weapons around that are commonly used to defeat Physical Immunes, and a Runeword that does that is the Famine Runeword, which does substantially more magic damage than Destruction, specifically 180-200 Magic Damage. And Famine does elemental damage as well, and is less expensive compared to Destruction.
The Magic damage and three sources of elemental damage on the Famine Runeword will keep you covered against Physical Immunes, even if they have one or two other Elemental Immunity (it will be a tough fight though!)
